About Eliza

About Eliza.

I’m Eliza or Eliza Jane (she/her). I’m a native North Carolinian but I moved away and have just recently returned to the great state of North Carolina! I’m learning all about my home state again. I received my bachelor’s degree from UNC-CH in 2009. I got my masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2022 from App State, where I also became certified in Expressive Arts Therapy.

As a cisgender, queer, neurodivergent, white woman, I’m passionate about using my privileged and my marginalized identities to help create change in our world. I deeply believe that everyone is worthy of love and we are all doing the best we can with what we have.

As a counselor, I use the tools of culture and society as a lens that helps me understand all of our issues and challenges take place in a greater context. The context helps us tease out what we can change in ourselves and what we might need to change about our environment. Your autonomy is crucial to our counseling relationship, so I help you find the balance and deeper self-understanding you need to be your own best advocate.

As a human, I believe that there is magic everywhere if you’re looking for it, and I want to be the kind of person who finds it. I enjoy spending time outside in the woods hiking or in my yard gardening with a sparkling beverage. My dogs (Dallas pictured right) keep me entertained and sometimes join in our online sessions.

I believe in kindness. Also in mischief. Also in singing, especially when singing is not necessarily prescribed.

Mary Oliver

I live and work on land cared for by the Sissipahaw, Tuscarora, Catawba and Lumbee Natives. I acknowledge that the land I love and care for was stolen during the Tuscarora war in 1711 and the tribes were consolidated and removed from their land after the Lowrie war. I see and hear that the residents of this land have been here for thousands of years. I value the footsteps and practices that shaped this land, and I hope to be a steward for future generations.
